12/4/11: Experience the Positive Vibrations of Kirtan

Sunday, December 4, 2011 ~  5 pm ~ Tickets $10.

Kirtan is an ancient tradition of call and response chanting of sacred Sanskrit mantras. Tina Gurupashna Vaughn on vocals and harmonium will lead the chants with selfless devotion and Beth Ellicott on percussion brings the vibration to amazing rhythms. Let us gather as a community to feel the power of these healing rituals and experience the positive vibrations of chanting together. We will begin the kirtan with a guided meditation.

Testimonials from people who went on past Sedona trips:

Lisa,

You have changed my life… I will forever be indebted to you.

Love,
Heidi

“If you have ever considered doing a yoga or spiritual retreat I highly recommend Lisa Goodwin’s Sedona Retreat.  The energy of the Red Rocks of Sedona are truly amazing.  Add to that the energy that Lisa unselfishly gives during your time there, it turns out to be a transforming experience in your life.

We all have “stuff” going on in our lives and somehow Lisa makes you feel as if the yoga and life coaching during this week was designed just for you!  I know I personally will be following Lisa’s workshops and retreats and look forward to doing as many as possible to continue my own personal growth.”

Namaste,

I was a last minute addition to the Sedona trip this year. I had never met Lisa before, but one of my students took her class while visiting Florida in September. She was so impressed with Lisa’s teaching style that of course I had to look into the retreat and Lisa Goodwin. I am grateful to have been part of this years retreat. I went thinking that I could use some reflection time and to work on my meditation skills, but I came away with so much more. It was energizing being a student for a change and just showing up on my mat with my thoughts and intentions focused inward. The food was delicious, the resort and surroundings were breathtaking and the yoga was yummy. It felt like I was truely caring for my mind, body and soul. Lisa is a special teacher that you can’t help but fall in love with. I look forward to Costa Rica!

Dear Lisa,

Thanks for your message, but more importantly, thanks for a wonderful, life changing experience.  I did not know you and went to Sedona on the recommendations for friends.  BOY were they right.  Not only was the yoga experience great, but your life coaching and talks were inspiring.  This combined with the setting and the great spa made for a super week.  I can not recommend this experience enough.  Thanks again Lisa, you are special.

Namaste,
Larry

8/11: Back to the Source ~ An Evening of Balancing the Chakras

Back to the Source ~ An Evening of Balancing the Chakras

Thursday, 11th August
6-8:15 pm   $35 ($25 prepay by 8/3/11)

“You cannot do yoga. Yoga is your natural state. What you can do is yoga exercises, which may reveal to you where you are resisting your natural state.”
- Sharon Gannon

Yoga is our natural state. We are spacious, connected, blissful, loving and infinite. However, we often forget this in the rush and stress of daily life and we tighten — physically, emotionally and energetically. Yoga exercises open up the channels of the subtle body, redirecting energy to areas which have become closed-off. This tightening often happens in seven key places, known as the chakras.

Chakra means wheel and these energy centres are said to spin, pulsating prana or energy through the subtle body. When these chakras are open, like after a great yoga practice, we feel radiant, spacious and free. These chakras also become blocked, though, forming nasty knots which restrict, limit and distract us.

In this workshop we will focus on opening the seven chakras though postures, breath, sound and meditation. We will open our hips before playing with twisting, backbending and inversions. This is a vinyasa practice which will be dynamic. It is appropriate for all levels, except complete beginners, but some experience of vinyasa is expected. Basic to advanced variations will be given.

8/12: Chanting with Bristol

Chanting with Bristol

Date: Fri 8/12/2011

Time: 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM

By Donation

Kirtan is the chanting of sacred names and uplifting mantras. It is a devotional practice but one that is not defined by religion — the meaning of these ancient sounds rests in your own heart. As my harmonium teacher Naomi says, ‘Chanting like yoga, is a means to unite with the Universe — a way to complete let go and be at one with all that is.

We will sing a few chants and you are welcome to join in the singing or even just listen. The chants are very simple, mostly only 3 or 4 repeated words. We sing repetitions of these mantras for a long time so that the action becomes meditative, we quiet the mind and we can sense the meaning of the mantras beyond the words.

We will mainly sing in Sanskrit rather than English because the syllable sounds in this ancient language are said to open the subtle body — they resonate within our chakras and expand our hearts. This is Nada Yoga, or the yoga of sound, where the vibration of sound, particularly positive and uplifted sounds, help us to feel open and free as we truly are.

We will then meditate for a few minutes. In the quiet, the chants continue to sing in your hearts.
