3/17: Circles of Life: Chakra Rebalancing for Health & Harmony with Olivia Miller

Circles of Life: Chakra Rebalancing for Health and Harmony with Olivia H. Miller, OHMWorkshops.

Spring is a time of growth and renewal, the perfect time for a restorative energy tune-up! This workshop uses deep breathing, gentle yoga, positive affirmations and meditations to rebalance the chakras, the vital energy centers that play an essential role in our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. It is through the chakras (Sanskrit for “wheel” or “circle”) that life energy – known as prana or chi – is processed. Balanced chakras allow this energy to flow freely, promoting vitality, health and harmony. Usher in the new season by embarking on a journey of profound healing and transformation. Namasté!

Olivia H. Miller, RYT, is the author of eight wellness and exercise card decks, including The Chakra Deck, The Yoga Deck, and The Stretch Deck. She is also the author of Essential Yoga, a hatha yoga reference book. 2/25: Becoming Light: A Workshop Exploring More Advanced Variations with Bristol Maryott

Becoming Light: A Workshop Exploring More Advanced Variations with  Bristol Maryott

Sat Date: 2/25/2012 From: 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM

In this Jivamukti yoga workshop, we will explore more ”advanced” poses. Don’t stop reading there! Our aim will be to make these poses more accessible through modification, props and partner work. Some of us will just get an idea and taste of the pose whereas others may find they can go farther than they think! Everyone will go home with ways they can work closer to some of these new openings in the body. We will first discuss and look at the mechanics of poses such as adho mukha vrksasana (handstand), eka pada galavasana (flying crow), eka pada rajakapotasana i-iv (king pigeon pose), vrschikasana (scorpion), urdhva kukkutasana (flying lotus), visvamitrasana (pose dedicated to sage Visvamitra) and other fun poses. This is your chance to break out of your comfort zone and get an idea of some of those poses that are rarely taught in group classes. As this is a Jivamukti workshop, there will be plenty of creative vinyasa to keep you moving around and warm. As we will be looking at advanced variations, complete beginners would be better off attending the Zen Palace workshop. However, if you have been practicing for a while and are willing to leave your ego at the door and respect your limitations, this will be a super fun and interesting practice for you! $30 by 2/18/12; $35 thereafter

We will then release into extended supported holds of the postures. Uplifting and relaxing music and pranayama will aid our entrance into softening the physical, mental, emotional and energetic bodies. $30 by 2/18/12; $35 thereafter.

Fridays at 4:30pm: Yoga Dance Class with Eliza

Yoga Dance combines, flow, asana, ballet, modern and breathwork making for an opening, energizing, playful, strengthening, lengthening class. Beginners welcome!

The class is with Eliza Ryan, who is certified in Yoga of Energy Flow, 200hrRYT. This style combines Kundalini, flow, Iyengar and meridian awareness to get the subtle energies of the body flowing. Eliza is also a choreographer and a dancer. Her background as an actress and acting teacher inform her interest in the interplay between the human and the divine.  She sees yoga as tool that helps us gain awareness and choice, deepen compassion and celebrate our differences, illuminated by the light of our oneness.

I began yoga 20 years ago when I was no longer able to dance. Now my yoga practice is so much a part of my life, and I could not imagine life without it. When I saw the new offering of Yoga Dance I was delighted. The fusion of yoga and dance combines the joy of beautiful movement with the meditative aspects of yoga. Both disciplines offer opportunities for deep relaxation, creativity, joy, strength and flexibility. My experience with Eliza’s Yoga Dance class is that it is accessible to everyone, and she is able to personalize her classwork according to what students are asking for. An added bonus is the great music Eliza brings to the class! — Margaret Rice Moir
