Finding Balance — Celebrating the Summer Solstice
This Jivamukti Yoga Workshop will focus on balancing — don’t worry, we won’t
spend the whole time on one foot! Instead we’ll move through our asana practice
with the intention of finding our balance in this time of transition. When we
find our balance in the physical body, it manifests as ease in the emotional,
mental, spiritual and energetic bodies. As we move past the summer solstice, the
longest day of the year, we start to shift back towards retreating inwards. It
is a time to enjoy summer’s bounty and also begin to cultivate an inward focus
that will nurture us as we move through summer and fall.
We will begin with a creative and dynamic flow of standing postures before
investigating some different ways of balancing on our feet, head and hands. Then
we’ll bring balance to the hips and lower back with a quieter series of
hip-openers and back-bends. We’ll finish with a guided meditation to internalize
the work we’ve done.
This class is appropriate for all levels except new beginners. However, come
with an open mind and a ready smile as we will purposefully and playfully
challenge the body.
